APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS
Applications for the following positions may ONLY be downloaded by clicking the link at the end of the job requirements. Please complete the application online and print it; if you do not have available internet access or the ability to print the application, you may visit any branch of the Lafayette Public Library System to use the public computers. Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

Title Wage Department

BUS OPERATOR $14.38-$17.97/Hour/DOE
Position is responsible for driving a bus to transport fare-paying passengers over established routes according to a time schedule. Possession of a Class B commercial driver’s license with airbrake and passenger endorsements, as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class B CDL with endorsements, prior to appointment required. Juvenile Detention Home Administrator $28.30-$35.38/Hour/DOE
Position is responsible for the overall management of a 34-bed facility for detaining young persons who have been removed from the family and are in the custody of the judicial system. This includes custodial care, safeguard of their health, education, safety, and legal rights while under the juvenile justice system. Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral or social science, criminal justice, business or public administration or related field and considerable supervisory experience in law enforcement, a correctional or penal institution with emphasis on juveniles, a community/public youth social service agency or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have progressively responsible experience in a correctional facility. Employee must complete initial and ongoing training requirements for direct care workers as established by the Department of Child and Family Services. Examination will be ratings of education and experience through a structured interview. Accepting the first 15 completed applications until Friday, November 6, 2020 at noon.

BOX OFFICE COORDINATOR $14.38-$17.97/Hour/DOE
This position is responsible for supervising and directing all aspects of the box or ticket office at the Heymann Performing Arts Center, the Frem Boustany Convention Center, and other associated ticket venues. Scope of responsibility includes the cash management functions, preparation of financial operating reports, event specific and monthly settlements, and training, directing and scheduling of a small part-time staff. Incumbents will be required to work irregular hours in order to be present for performances and other events. Graduation from high school supplemented by course work in marketing, business, accounting, computer operation systems and/or hospitality management, and experience in the administration of box offices of public assembly facilities and performing arts centers, or an equivalent combination of training and experience desired. CIVIL ENGINEERING AIDE III $15.73-$19.66/Hour/DOE LUS
Positions in this classification perform technical work on civil engineering projects. Work is project oriented with attention to details regarding adherence to specifications, code and regulation compliance, and verification of invoicing and payments according to contracted terms. Position performs duties (inspection, evaluation, management, etc.) related to sewer and water additions and repairs including GPS and the updating of GIS. Work also involves performing surveying and mapping tasks, along with record keeping and data entry to aid higher level technicians or engineers. Twelve to eighteen months education and formal training beyond high school specific to the individual position and prior work experience in the civil engineering field incorporating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the specific position; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. LABOR FOREMAN II $12.86-$16.08/Hour/DOE Parks and Rec
Position is responsible for planning, explaining, and assigning the tasks of crews and workers performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and the upkeep of grounds and facilities at city-parish parks. Position also participates in the assigned work, and work is subject to inspections by a superior. Position is responsible for the operation of equipment such as tractor with 15’ bush hog, backhoe, mini excavator, and other lawn equipment. Incumbent tracks employee’s work time and leave. Completion of high school; considerable experience in the maintenance, repair, and minor construction of municipal facilities, including some lead worker experience; and experience with the operation of equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid driver’s license required to apply. Possession of Louisiana driver’s license required prior to appointment. Examination will be a combination of a written test as well as a performance test on tractor and 15’ bush hog/finishing mower. ANIMAL CARETAKER $11.25-$14.06/Hour/DOE CAO-Animal Control
This position is responsible for keeping the Animal Shelter clean, for euthanasia and disposal of animals, and for giving proper care to the animals confined to the shelter. Objectives include maintaining a clean and tidy Animal Shelter and grounds, effective animal care, and humane euthanasia. Position demands that applicants must not be afraid of animals and may require putting animals to sleep. Work involves some heavy lifting. Background checks may be required. Graduation from high school and considerable experience in the care and wellbeing of animals; or any combination of training and experience. Assists with vaccination and care giving of the animals Valid driver’s license required to apply. Possession of a valid Louisiana driver’s license, prior to appointment. Positions in this class are assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete initial and ongoing training requirements established by the Chief Administrative Office, Animal Control division, in accordance with Louisiana state law, euthanasia personnel shall receive Euthanasia Certification by the Humane Society of the United States Academy on Euthanasia or an equivalent program within one year of date of employment for continued employment. CASHIER $9.97-$12.46/Hour/DOE LUS
Positions in the class are responsible for collecting and posting payments for utility bills, telecommunications bills, property taxes, security deposits, etc., made in person, by mail, or at a drive through window. Responsible for balancing receipts on a daily basis with accuracy. Explains to customers the amount due, the delinquent date and severance process; assists customers in writing checks. Completion of high school supplemented by experience as a cashier; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Examination will be a written test. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR IV $14.52-$18.15/hour/DOE  
Position is primarily responsible for the SKILLED operation of a Gradall, Excavator, Bulldozer, Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck. Depending on area of assignment, may also operate other heavy equipment. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake and combination endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to appointment. Certain positions in this class are assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete initial and ongoing training requirements established by the Public Works Department, Drainage Division, within two (2) years for continued employment Examination will be a performance test mostly on the Excavator, Gradall and Bulldozer, but will include the Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck.
