Abraham "AB" Rubin, Jr.
Parish Council District 5
Councilman Abraham "AB" Rubin, Jr. represents Lafayette Parish Council District 5, the seat to which he was elected in 2019. He has been employed by UPS for over 31 years. Additionally, Councilman Rubin works part-time for Limousines Ltd. Councilman Rubin has coached boys’ and girls’ basketball and softball, ranging from tee ball to fast pitch. He is also a 5th degree Black Belt martial artist, having taught martial arts for many years.
Councilman Rubin is extremely dedicated to giving back to his community. With the help of family and friends, he has adopted Alice Boucher Elementary School in Lafayette and has led activities there to include giving donuts on the first day of school, providing electronic tablets to 5th graders for Christmas, and giving popsicles on the last day of school, in addition to implementing the Pencil for a Smile program following Easter break. He has also made rounds to every retirement home in the area over the years for Grandparents’ Day to prepare a meal and provide entertainment for elderly residents. Councilman Rubin is most proud of the Citywide Easter Egg Hunt in Heymann Park, an event which he has coordinated for approximately 20 years and puts smiles on the faces of nearly 500 children.
Councilman Rubin has been honored by the Ladies’ Auxiliary Court 76 with the Acadiana Men of Excellence Award, the Father of the Year Award by 100 Black Men of Lafayette, the Kingdom Man Award by Destiny of Faith Church, and the Leadership Award by the Greater Southwest Louisiana Black Chamber of Commerce. He enjoys time with his wife, Sonya Harris Rubin, their four (4) children, and their grandchild.
