APPLICATION PROCESS FOR INTERNET APPLICATIONS
Applications for the following positions may ONLY be downloaded by clicking the link at the end of the job requirements. Please complete the application online and print it; if you do not have available internet access or the ability to print the application, you may visit any branch of the Lafayette Public Library System to use the public computers. Only U.S. citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service are eligible for employment by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found at the top of the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn-in their applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

In order for an application to be accepted, the following items are required at the time the application is turned in.
 
  • Proof that the applicant is 18 years of age or older and has permission to work in the United States issued by the Department of State if not a citizen, and has submitted to the Civil Service Office the prescribed completed employment forms of the aforementioned, prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Proof of a social security number. If you do not have your SS card, an official document with number printed on it will be accepted. (Ex: W-2, etc.)

    The following item may be turned in at any time before the test is given.

  • Proof of veteran status; DD214. You must show proof of having served 90 consecutive days of active duty and show proof that you were honorably discharged. Any one showing proof will be awarded five points to a passing grade.
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced, your application form with items 1 and 2 listed above must be submitted to the Civil Service Office before both date/time and maximum number of applications stated on the ad or announcement of the vacancy.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II $11.36-$14.21/Hour/DOE Parks and Recreation
This position is responsible for the upkeep and grounds maintenance of municipal golf course by using specialized mowers: Groundsmaster, Fairway, and Greens mowers. Other golf course equipment is utilized to ensure that all areas of the golf course are well-groomed. Perform other golf course grounds maintenance including cutting cups, raking sand traps, and making repairs on irrigation system to ensure proper functioning. Graduation from high school and experience with the operation of the equipment used to maintain golf courses; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have valid driver’s license to apply and valid Louisiana driver’s license upon hire. Performance test on the independent operation of greens mower with reel attachment and cutting a cup. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II $11.36-$14.21/Hour/DOE Drainage
Position operates a tandem axle dump truck in the repair and maintenance of wastewater collection lines and manholes, drainage projects, street projects, water distribution projects or related, depending on area of assignment. Completion of the eighth grade, some experience in the operation of trucks or equipment similar to those described herein, or any equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Position(s) operate a manual transmission or an automatic transmission vehicle, depending on area of assignment. Current vacancies are manual transmission vehicles. Possession of the appropriate class commercial driver’s license and endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with Air Brake, combination and/or tanker endorsements, prior to appointment. Testing will be a performance test on the tandem dump truck using manual and/or automatic transmission. Accepting the first 10 completed applications until Monday, February 1, 2021 at noon.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III $12.86-$16.08/Hour/DOE Drainage
Responsible for the skilled operation of a Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck. Ability to read and write, and experience in the operation of trucks or equipment similar to those described herein; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake and combination endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to appointment required. Will need to be able to operate a manual transmission vehicle. Examination will be a performance test on the Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck. COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK TECH $18.81-$23.52/Hour/DOE LUS Fiber
Incumbent works in call center providing technical support and resolving escalated technical trouble calls (Tier 2 support) from customers with cable TV, telephone and internet service or for data-related problems for LUS Fiber. Answers calls, troubleshoots issues, and documents simultaneously in a timely fashion. The position also handles escalation of problems to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner for severe conditions – such as power failure or optical fiber cable cut. Position involves 12-hour rotating shifts. Vocational/technical training in electronics, telecommunications, computer, or related, supplemented by work experience providing technical support in the following areas: home electronics, voice and video concepts, high speed internet, networking, computers, and home and business wiring. Experience with network monitoring tools such as Solarwinds a plus, as well as progressively responsible experience working in a network operations center (NOC) or as technical support staff troubleshooting, and supporting VoIP, POTS, Hosted PBX, Video, Internet and/or integrated data systems. TRAINING AND COMPLIANCE COORDINATOR $16.19-$20.23/Hour/DOE
Position is responsible for staff training required for continued licensure of a Juvenile Detention Facility operated by the Lafayette City Parish Government, through research and application of Standards for Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. Researches State’s requirements for staff training, prepares curricula, schedules and coordinates training sessions, conducts training, keeps thorough records and prepares reports. Prepares an annual training plan including orientation of new employees, with details of methods and facilities, submits to state for approval. College level coursework in Adult Education related field supplemented by professional working experience as a trainer is desired, as is experience with Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services training standards for staff of a juvenile detention facility. Crisis intervention training as approved by the L.D.C.F.S. also desired. Examination will be a rating of education and experience through a structured interview. Senior Communications Network Technician $23.05-$28.82/Hour/DOE Fiber
Supervises and participates in taking escalated calls from subscribers experiencing problems with LUS Fiber’s video, internet and/or telephone services. Vocational technical school in electronics or equivalent telecommunications specialties. Substantial work experience in computer networks, cable TV networks, or telecommunications, as well as supervisory and customer service experience in a closely-related industry; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired. Examination will be a rating of education and experience through a structured interview. Accepting the first 15 completed applications until Friday, January 22, 2021 at noon.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR IV $14.52-$18.15/hour/DOE  
Position is primarily responsible for the SKILLED operation of a Gradall, Excavator, Bulldozer, Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck. Depending on area of assignment, may also operate other heavy equipment. Applicants must be able to independently operate the equipment. Work of this class is distinguished from that of Equipment Operator III by the type of equipment operated, the skill level required by the job assignment, and the frequency of operation of the assigned equipment. Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment similar to those types listed herein, including some experience in precision work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with airbrake and combination endorsements as issued by the State of Louisiana. Applicants must have at least a valid Commercial Driver’s License or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana class A CDL with endorsements, prior to appointment. Certain positions in this class are assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6. This requires the employee to complete initial and ongoing training requirements established by the Public Works Department, Drainage Division, within two (2) years for continued employment Examination will be a performance test mostly on the Excavator, Gradall and Bulldozer, but will include the Backhoe and Tandem Dump Truck.
